The Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Alpha Alpha Upsilon Omega Chapter of Wellington, capped off another successful year of Students Working to Achieve Greatness (SWAG) with its graduation program on August 1, 2023. Soror Hollani Davis, News Anchor – WPTV, was the emcee. Students from Palm Beach Central and Wellington High Schools were awarded college scholarships and given professional attire for college. Two students were awarded HBCU scholarships.

SWAG is a partnership between the Crowned Pearls of Wellington Foundation (CPW) and the Village of Wellington. The Village awarded CPW Foundation a grant in March to administer the program whose mission is to empower and motivate students who face barriers that impact the quality of their lives. From October through May, Alpha Alpha Upsilon Omega (AAUO) mentors 50+ students via weekly mentoring sessions and college admissions workshops. At the conclusion of the school year, AAUO, conducts interviews for 25 paid seven-week summer internships throughout Palm Beach County ranging from area businesses in Wellington to the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office. The graduation is a celebration for the 25 interning students and their families.

CPW Foundation donated an additional funding to SWAG.

The SWAG Committee is spearheaded by Paulette Edwards and Alma Henry-Morman. Marcia V. Hayden is AAUO Chapter President and Lavern Blackwood is CPW Foundation President.
