The Village of Wellington invites you to attend a special Martin Luther King Jr. Day remembrance event in tribute to the remarkable legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and commemorating his life and accomplishments.
The morning will begin with a light breakfast and fellowship, followed by a welcome message and reflections from Wellington's Council, student presentations, and a special keynote address from the Honorable Judge Danielle Sherriff.
At the conclusion of the event, there will be two service projects taking place, providing an opportunity for attendees to actively engage and make a differnce within the community.
The event starts at 8:30 a.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Wellington Community Center (12150 Forest Hill Boulevard).
Special Guest Speaker: The Honorable Judge Danielle Sherriff
The Honorable Judge Danielle A. Sherriff was appointed to the County Court bench in Palm Beach County in May 2023 and currently serves in the Civil Division. Prior to her appointment, Judge Sherriff had a distinguished career as an attorney for the School District of Palm Beach County, defending suits related to premises liability, automobile negligence, and Title IX matters. She also served as a personal injury attorney with Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith and as an Assistant State Attorney in Palm Beach County for over 13 years.
During her tenure at the State Attorney’s Office, Judge Sherriff gained extensive trial experience, having tried over 100 jury and non-jury trials, the majority of which were felonies. She served as Chief of the Traffic Homicide Unit, where she supervised a team responsible for prosecuting crimes such as DUI Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide, and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death. Judge Sherriff also prosecuted a wide range of felony cases, including robberies, sexual batteries, and attempted homicides.
Judge Sherriff is deeply committed to the legal community and public service. She has held leadership roles as President of the Palm Beach County Chapter of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers and as President of the F. Malcolm Cunningham, Sr. Bar Association. She remains an active member of several committees within the Palm Beach County Bar Association and the Florida Bar.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Judge Sherriff is passionate about mentorship and education. She has mentored both high school and law school students and regularly speaks at local schools to help educate students about the law, ethics, and civics. Judge Sherriff also serves on several boards in the local community, including Scholar Career Coaching, Family Promise Homeless Coalition, and the Women’s Foundation of Florida.
Originally from Queens, New York, Judge Sherriff moved to South Florida in high school. She earned her Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law and her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science from Florida International University.
